Most people think of the Architect as the 'Person who draws the permit plans'.
This narrow conception of an Architect is where most people get hurt. Creating drawings to, 'Just get a permit' leaves the door wide open for all kind of problems.
You can't be too thorough when your quality of life is at stake.

- Effective results require disciplined planning.
- Are Permit Drawings all you need?
- What happens when we meet a new Builder?
- So what kind of service should you be looking for?
Clarifying Client Goals
- What do I want my building to do?
- How flexible should it be?
- Where should I build it?
No matter how you think about your project, practicable purpose, community image and long-term objectives are key issues that if not designed for will only happen by luck.
Permit Drawings are not bid and construction drawings.
Permit drawings tell you what the building looks like. Construction drawings tell you how it is to be built. If you are putting your project out for bid you must have Bid and Construction drawings or the Bids are meaningless. Don't overlook the importance of the Architect's participation through construction.
Why are we making such a strong statement?
There is no such thing as a complete set of drawings…
Someone on the construction team will have questions. Or worse yet, will commit errors.
Every time we meet a new builder...
They ask us to prove that we are not like all the other Architects.
What are they looking for?
Someone that listens and answers their questions; helping keep them on schedule and on budget throughout the whole project. There is a level of respect that RDI brings to the table that creates a team approach to every project.
RDI is focused on service and service is what you should be looking for from your Architectural Firm.
We suggest the following.
- Planning / Programming Studies
- Schematic Design Development
- Contract Documents
- Contract Administration
Don't underestimate the importance of Architectural Contract Administration. RDI's approach can mean the difference between keeping your workers on or off the job. Who can afford to lose their team to a break in the schedule? Certainly not you.
If it was only as easy as saying...
What is real service? Give us a call and we'll show you.
